Stopping to smell the roses.

Hi Loves,

As I write this post I am in a hospital bed....boo hoo, no sympathy needed the reason I mention this is that I clearly needed this time of peace and quite to reflect on a few things.

How often do we really deep down appreciate what we have?  obviously during this boring period I have been addicted to the Internet as a way to while away the hours and a few consumerism posts got me really thinking, we all flick through images on the net at a million miles an hour nowadays and if you like something it's simply a case of click and buy, there is usually a shopping link supplied for you and no doubt your card is pre-programmed in, click and it's yours, gone are the days of wanting a certain item, going to every shop in Town and ending up buying it from the very first shop you saw it in, or even HEAVEN FORBID you should actually go away and think about the intended purchase overnight just to make sure you really want it!  We are already looking at the next thing while waiting on the delivery of the first.  I'm not knocking this at all, if this s your bag as it was mine when I was younger and it makes you happy fair play to you, enjoy the rush :)

I got to thinking how odd it is for me now I have reached a certain age not to lust after objects so much, don't get me wrong if I want something I want it yesterday and to be fair it's usually something fairly pricey like a camera or something, and yes I get the rush!  but everything else I can walk away from without a thought, recently we went to a shopping outlet where the Mister was trying to buy me some Jimmy Choo's don't get me wrong 20 years ago I would have slept and bathed in those buggers but on that day all I could think of was all the unworn lovelies I have at home, my girls were like "what is WRONG with you?"   I truthfully think as we get older our wants and needs change massively, I had no idea it would happen and that priorities would change so much.

While sitting here I suddenly had a huge rush of gratitude that my 3 children are all happy and doing well at the same time, it tends to often be like spinning plates - right now my ducks are in a row!  and I so very proud of them, as a single Mum there were times when my priorities were food and heat so today I am grateful for being able to turn the heating up if I need it, and not fearing the bailiffs at the door.  All of my life all I have ever wanted was happy children and the ability to pay bills before the knock on the door and suddenly it occurred to me today that I am there.  Don't read this the wrong way and think we are minted, far from it but from where I was to where I am now I feel blessed, for the last 8 years I have been with a man that would put my needs above any of his and for that I am grateful.

So, advise from an old bird!  using a very overused  cliche stop and smell the roses......................just sometimes. You may be surprised at what you discover.

Hiya Darlins,

Hope you are well? I have wanted this product for the longest time so was absolutely delighted to get to test it out for the blog!

As you know I recently reviewed the Magnitone Barefaced 2 Cleansing Brush which I am using on a daily basis and I can't see that changing, I now have a new daily obsession this time in the makeup department.

Magnitone Blend Up Vibra-Sonic™ Makeup Blending Brush
Magnitone Blend Up Vibra-Sonic™  Makeup Blending Brush

Blending foundation is not something quite as simple nowadays as it used to be, back in my day, yes, yes I know that was a long time ago!  we only had the choice of fingers to apply our foundation, or your Nana used to use a  puff for her powder which took the place of foundation.  My lord things are a bit different now, blenders, brushes every permutation of sponge, I have even seen a BOILED EGG be used on Instagram!  The thing is, we want perfection - everyone wants that flawless skin look regardless of age and our expectations of our makeup are so much higher now, I very much doubt you see anyone with a distinct line between face and neck like you used to?  we blend for all we are worth!  and to that end the Magnitone Blend Up is a gift from the gods.

Biomaster®  never leaks or washes away so you know your brush head it protected for life.

The brush works with both liquid and powders to seamlessly blend like a professional, I love the fact that it does all the work for you so that when you leave the house and catch a glimpse of your face you are never caught out with any glaring streaks - yes we have all done it!  With 2 speeds plus a cleaning mode you will get to grips with this tool in no time at all and it won't be long before you wonder how you did without it, trust me this is no gimmick, it works!  Charged by USB in 2 hours you will get a full 100 minutes use which in terms of applying makeup is forever.

Samaya Ayurvedic Skincare

Samaya Ayurvedic Skincare
Samaya Ayurvedic Skincare

Hi Loves

How are you doing?  This was a really interesting discovery for me in terms of skincare and one which to be honest I thought sounded really complicated and confusing as I had never really looked into Ayurveda very deeply, on researching and discovering these products the principles turned out to be really simple and actually made sense if you are a person that likes to live a simple natural balanced lifestyle.  Which I do think more and more people are turning to nowadays as the world can be often a busy hectic place!

Samaya Ayurvedic Skincare
Samaya Ayurvedic Skincare

Basics of Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old natural and holistic approach to life, it’s rooted in India’s Vedic culture. The principles of Ayurveda are based on nature’s five elements and three life-energies. Following these age-old rules will not only create harmony in the body, but will also allow you to a balance and peace-loving lifestyle. From diet to exercise to mental composure. The three main life energies are Vata(wind), Pitta (fire) and Kapha(earth). Each human being has a prevailing dosha that shapes our minds and bodies. For example, someone with a dominant Vata energy will have smaller bone structure and are likely to be thin, light and energetic. Pitta energies are intense and intellectual creatures.  When Kapha is dominant, that person tends to be a nurturer with an easy-going nature.

On to the products.

Samaya Ayurvedic Skincare is based on the 3 life energies and to make life really simple for us they have a questionnaire on their website samayaayurveda.com/ that you follow to discover your Dosha type.  The skincare ranges are specifically tailored to each type.

Interestingly when I completed the survey my Dosha was Kapha and the skincare range turned out to be for oily skin, which I am not, my skin has always been pretty normal. But I thought for the purposes of this trial I would trust the process and not question it.  Now this really is quite interesting, the skincare was brilliant for me, I absolutely convinced myself it would be too harsh, not at all, and something that has just this second occurred to me as I am writing this post is that currently I am on a huge amount of medication including steroids which could be the reason the questionnaire picked up on my change?  no clue but it worked!

Samaya Ayurvedic Skincare

I started out with;
Samaya Hydrating Cleanser Kapha 100ml

Firstly the packaging on these products is beautiful, simple Eco friendly glass bottles, housed in protective card tubes, I keep mine in the tubes to protect from light damage.

A couple of pumps of the cleanser applied to dry skin melts away makeup and grime, developed with powerful Ayurvedic botanicals such as Ashwagandha, Sandalwood, Vetivert and Frankincense to hydrate and soften the skin, simply apply, massage in with the hands and rinse with warm water and a wash cloth.

Samaya Ayurvedic Skincare
Samaya Ayurvedic Skincare

Samaya Anti-Ageing Skin Cream Kapha 50ml

The formula is lightweight and literally melts into the skin, it has a clean fresh botanical fragrance that has an uplifting effect as you apply, I actually used this alone with no other serums or primers and it worked really well under make up as it leaves a dry soft base to the skin. Used both morning and night there is no need for further products should you wish to keep your routine simple and effective. The same botanical ingredients run throughout the range.

Samaya Ayurvedic Skincare
Samaya Ayurvedic Skincare

Samaya Renewing Exfoliant Kapha 50ml

I used 2-3 times a week although you can use it every other day, or indeed leave it on overnight for a deeper treatment. This enzyme filled exfoliant contains no grit or grains and works literally on the power of the enzymes to remove dead lifeless skin which leaves you looking dull and tired, in all honesty I am in love with this product, apply, leave 20 minutes and rinse away with warm water and a washcloth, pat dry and look in the mirror!  your skin will look paler more balanced, refreshed and feel fantastic.
Pineapple enzymes, Sodium Hyaluranate, Aloe & Jojoba combine with botanical ingredients to unclog every pore.

When using there was a very slight tingle which I actually enjoy, the product dries down while it is doing it's work.

I have thoroughly enjoyed discovering this range and really quite like the simplicity of the routine, it is a change from over complicated skincare routines which can come in as many as 10 stages!  sometimes in life it's nice to keep it simple :)

Little Life Update (chat)

Hi Loves,

How are you?

I wanted to pop this quick post out just to cover my reasons for being semi AWOL this last week!
It has been a little bit hectic here to say the least, we have been waiting for my youngest daughter to complete on her first property, it was promised before Christmas but what with the legal stuff they decided it would be a good idea to exchange and complete on the same day!!! so of course it was all hands to the deck. achieving this at 26 on her own has been nothing less than a miracle. A brief rundown of why I say this.  My girl suffers from BPD which is a mental health condition, she was with her boyfriend for 7 years  to discover he was online chatting to a woman in another country, the upshot being he moved abroad, leaving the girl with a huge rent and a flat full of his old crap, and a broken soul!  what is it they say about women being strong when they need to be?  after licking her wounds and having some strange experiences with Internet dating she decided enough was enough. after lengthy discussions she bought a caravan!   yep, don't ask - Mum can  live in the garden?  sounds nuts right?  the thing is at the time of her moving back, I already had my eldest Grandaughter living with me ( who has now left me to live with her lovely fella bloody miles away!) and my 3rd bedroom is a smallish office, plus my daughter has two cats that walk on leads!  that couldn't live inside with us due to cat/dog and my passion for having doors and windows open........ anyway- she bought it and moved it in LOL, fortunately we managed to hide it away in the garden so we didn't look like a holiday camp, sorted her water, had extra power put in the house, decorated it pink and white and the rest was history, she literally saved like a mad woman to get her deposit. The flat is beautiful and I am so very proud to see where she is today, the end of the relationship turned out to be a blessing in disguise. She is doing an Open University degree in marketing so now has more space for her papers n stuff!

While this is going on over the space of a week, I get to go to hospital on an emergency with this stupid condition Ulcerative Colitis, I won't bore you but the needless to say the timing was a nightmare, and on moving in day I had already promised my youngest Grandaughter that we would go buy her prom dress, and a promise is a promise right?  she has her dress, is over the moon and I can't wait to show off her photo's when the time comes!  We didn't have the fun of such things in my day but I get to live another life through the girls LOL. And to end the week it will be my only Son's 30th birthday, so a visit and a day out is planned, I can't wait!

Well that's me this week, hopefully normal life (whatever that is) will resume.  I hope your week has been blessed with good things.

Beatitude Peace

Beatitude Peace

#AD

Hi Loves,

I don't know about you but sleep is something of a pain for me, when I was younger I could literally sleep for England 12-14 hours was easy! nowadays I'm lucky if I can get 4 and that's usually broken by at least one trip in the night to the cold tiled space.  I am no Maggie Thatcher and four hours is not cutting it;  it means that by 4.30 in the afternoon I dare not sit down or I will without even realising be drifting off, also I can't help thinking that everything to do with health and maintaining wellness always put a good 7 or 8 hours at the top of the list, no wonder I feel like an empty old shuck in the afternoons!

Beatitude are not a new brand to me, I have had the pleasure of experiencing the Christmas Comfort Candle and a small sample of Bath Oil you can read about those here.
This time around I have been trying out a combination of Beatitude Peace Pillow Spray & Room Spray alongside Beatitude Peace Dispersing Bath Oil.

Beatitude Peace
Beatitude Peace

Let's just start with how beautiful this bottle of Aromatherapy Bath Oil looks - it's like having a bottle of very expensive perfume sitting on the bathroom shelf. The 50ml bottle will provide you with about 10 baths you really only need the tiniest amount and the room is filled with relaxing aroma. The oil disperses into the water leaving no greasy residue but manages to fully moisturise and soften your skin while bathing.
Simply lie back close your eyes and let the combination of essential oils of Ylang Ylang, Lavender, Mandarin, Petitgrain and Cedarwoood clear your mind of any of the day's stresses and strains, when treating yourself to an Aromatherapy bath I think it's best to announce to the household that you are taking a bath, in other words "please leave me alone" you need this time to unwind and calm any racing thoughts that are going through your head.  Before entering the bath I gave my pillows a spritz with the Peace Pillow Spray and added a few sprays to the bedroom and closed the door.

Beatitude Peace
Beatitude Peace

I honestly wish I could bottle the feeling of laying in that fragrant water, wrapping in a warm dressing gown and entering the bedroom!  It was like a spa experience like no other, you are literally enveloped in aromatherapy fragrances that melt away anything that could possibly be causing you stress.

Bingo!  I slept like a baby, I didn't even make one trip to the loo which in itself is a miracle, I don't remember dreaming or turning over on if fact anything at all!
I woke naturally after 9 hours!!!!!!!!  yep 9 hours it was like being knocked out with some sort of pill, I honestly couldn't believe it.  I think if you were to do the ritual every single night it may lose the impact, but for me 2-3 times a week will be perfect, in fact it will be quite an exciting thought to look forward to during the day knowing that whatever the day throws at you will float out of the window when you set up your bedtime ritual.

Beatitude Peace

I know people look forward to going to bed, but getting excited about it is a whole new novelty for me.

Revolution Eye Glisten

Hi Loves,

When it comes to new releases I honestly can't keep up with Revolution Beauty, it seems as though there is something new a couple of times a week, when these arrived all I knew is that they were an upcoming new release. I had no idea of when so I just played with them until after I saw they had become available and here we are! 5 tubes of bling that are the easiest things to apply ever, even for the most inexperienced.

At one end you have a foil like shimmer which feels wet on application yet dries down really quickly, you can use the applicator for a heavy application but I personally found it better to apply a little with the applicator and then go over with a brush or fingers for a smooth shimmery look.  For 100% best use I would always apply a primer under these as the pigment is so good they can leave a little staining to the lid. Another newbie from Revolution is the Cut Crease primer which is literally fantastic, your make up is staying put regardless of what you get up to!

Flip the tube and in the other end you have the complimenting glitter shade, these glitters are fairly chunky although they don't drop and end up all over your face there is a chance that you will be able to feel them while wearing, this didn't bother me at all and the thing I loved about these is that you can simply put on a single shade of shimmer to your lid for daytime and then touch it up at night with a bit of sparkle, again I found these easier to apply using fingers and you also have the ability to add additional coats if you really want some really strong looking bling.

There are 5 shades available in the range so you are bound to find one to suit you, apart from Desired which is quite a strong shade the others are really quite subtle and pretty. At £6.00 each these are an absolute bargain and work out about the same price as one high end for all five in the collection.

E.L.F Lip Exfoliator

E.L.F Lip Exfoliator
E.L.F Lip Exfoliator

Hiya Darlins,

Do you scrub?  no I don't mean floors we are talking lips, your kissing apparatus! or your chatting apparatus whatever works for you :)

Well, as much as I am obsessed by exfoliation, body brushing, body scrubs, face scrubs, facial brushes etc I have to admit to ignoring my lips, until I discovered E.L.F Lip Exfoliators.

Shaped just like a lipstick these scrubs are applied the same as a lipstick and massaged in using a circular motion, the balm which is infused with Vitamin E, Shea Butter, Avocado, Grape and Jojoba Oil melts onto the lips removing traces of dead skin and as you wipe away with a damp cotton pad it leaves your lips looking and feeling plump and smooth, once you start with these I promise it's easy to become addicted as you will love the look and feel of your lips after you have exfoliated and lipstick applies and looks so much better.

I find these are brilliant for use at night, exfoliate, apply a balm and just see the difference overnight.

Mary Kay Enchanted Wish Eau De Toilette

Hi Loves,

This Fragrance from Mary Kay is described as whimsical, fruity-floral scent is inspired by women who find enchantment in the everyday. I'm not sure about finding enchantment in everyday I personally think that's a huge task however, this fragrance is lovely, light soft and very very feminine.

The Faceted turquoise glass bottle topped with a purple flower shaped stopper reminds me of a single flower in a vase, really pretty.  When this arrived I didn't expect to like it at all, I am a bit of a fragrance snob, having turned down offers of celebrity fragrances in the past. My main loves are Penhaligons & Jo Malone, that said and much to my surprise I have been having a little spritz of Enchanted Wish on an almost daily basis.

  • Top notes: granny smith apple, orange oil Brazil, white pineapple, candied petals
  • Middle notes: stargazer lily, peony, fresh ozone, passion fruit
  • Bottom notes: brown sugar, warm amber, illuminating musk
It is definitely the top notes that hit the spot for me as I do love a fresh fruity kick to a fragrance as the fragrance warms you begin to notice the middle and bottom notes as it settles into a powdery fresh scent.

This generous 60ml  spray bottle will last a good while as the fragrance has good staying power and I find it lasts all day, if you were going out in the evening or fancied a top up you would only need to apply once more.

Mary Kay are a brand that I have featured often on the blog and you can read more here if you wish to discover more about the brand.

SENSSE FACIAL CONTOUR DEFINER

SENSSE FACIAL CONTOUR DEFINER
SENSSE FACIAL CONTOUR DEFINER

Hiya Loves,

Let's start by getting the elephant in the room out of the way.  The look of this tool could be considered by some to resemble some sort of adult toy!  Not that I would know, but a lot of you naughty girls had some very cheeky comments when I posted pictures of this to my Instagram some time ago when it first arrived!  It did cause quite a giggle. HOWEVER we are grown up mature women who need to stop giggling like school children and concentrate on the job in hand (no pun)

SENSSE FACIAL CONTOUR DEFINER
SENSSE FACIAL CONTOUR DEFINER

SENSSE FACIAL CONTOUR DEFINER

The Sensse Facial Contour Definer does exactly what it says, the shape of the rollers fit perfectly along the jawline and are designed to work your facial muscles to relieve tension, boost blood circulation, stimulate collagen production and activate lymphatic drainage system to detoxify the skin,  smoothing and reducing puffiness in the chin/jaw area to leave you looking more defined.   I flipping love this thing!  not firstly because it's gold but for the simple reason IT WORKS!  You hold the device at the centre of your chin apply light pressure and roll it outwards towards your ear, repeat on both sides for 5 minutes a day and you will visibly see the difference in the definition of your chin from the very first use.  Now the thought of standing in a bathroom using this for 5 minutes everyday I couldn't cope with so being the lazy woman I am I do this while watching TV much to the amusement of everyone else, it is the most relaxing thing ever. I don't particularly use any oils or creams when using my little gizmo, quite often I will just pick it up and roll away, I have tied it on a super clean face with facial oil and to be honest it does feel more or a facial but in order for me to guarantee that I use the Sensse daily I like to have it to hand, plus it has it's own handy little storage bag. If I'm honest I'm surprised at just how relaxing this is.  A definite thumbs up from me that's for sure.

Available here at a reduced price down from £40.00 to £29.99

Being Old in a world of beauty bloggers & Influencers

Hiya Darlins,

Today I fancied a bit of ramble, as is my way!

Firstly I have no clue why I used the word influencers in my title I bloody hate that word. Anyways I was thinking about being old, I think at 62 I could now say I'm officially old- Boots think so I get extra points on my card for being an old bird, plus I get to go to London with a granny rail card, so it has some advantages.

Ya'll know I started blogging when I gave up my full time business, I got bored of cleaning the house and needed something else, so here I am.

I need to start by saying every day I feel grateful that brands and PR agencies have not put me in the "past it" bin and still see some value to my blog posts, all those back handers must have worked! (joke)

It's really strange what got me thinking about this as I have recently had a situation where I am convinced I was overlooked for being too old, and had to question the PR as to what is the deciding factor for them, I am still non the wiser but never mind.  It really is odd this old lark, it never EVER occurs to me that I am too old for anything, my body is another story it reminds me that swings and messing around are probably best left to younger fitter versions.  It's only just recently that it has got me thinking having been passed over for a couple of things, before you raise your eyeballs and think oh here's another entitled mare who expects everything, It wasn't like that at all, It was a couple of people that I had worked really really hard with in the past, all for free I might add, that just left me feeling a little unwanted.  Time to get out the worlds smallest violin LOL

It just got me thinking, I have for the last 4 plus years since I started my blog seen people saying the best opportunities only go to the young, thin and beautiful and I was there thinking nah that's just sour grapes.  But I am now beginning to see it more and more, I have mixed feelings about all of this as some of these girls are seriously STUNNING and I love the way the ordinary girl can now become a talked about star in her own right, but what about us lot who weren't blessed with the best looks or waist long hair, we can still add value, us poor old mutley's can still promote brands, and other old mutleys often like what we have to say!

I have been so so lucky since I started blogging and have been invited to some seriously beautiful places that having given up corporate work years ago would probably never have visited.  At these events you get to meet a whole array of different people, and I have to be honest and say often times I am just so busy people watching I forget to mingle, the ones that fascinate me the most are the crew who literally go out just to take pictures of themselves, whoa betide anyone who stands in the way of the best instagram shot, you are getting shoved lady, this is serious business!  I am stood there like a lost old bird with my mouth open staring.  The other camp of of these gorgeous young things are the loveliest people I have ever met, I have had the best hugs from the most surprising places. I do think it's too easy to judge everyone on face value, I have done it a couple of times and really lived to regret it.

So I guess the moral of this long winded tale is there are some and some in all walks of life. I think in today's world of social media it is way too easy to judge someone by a random selfie or a tweet, and often the most outgoing people on social are the ones crippled with self doubt.

Thoughts?

SBC GELS PROPOLIS QVC TSV

#AD

Hi Loves,

I have been absolutely desperate to share this offer with you, SBC Gels are featuring on QVC as a Today's Special Value TSV this Thursday 21st Feb You can be one of the very first to grab this offer from midnight on Wednesday 20th

The Original Price of this  5 piece offer if bought separately is over £123.00 you can purchase it at a special price of under £40.00, it is in fact worth a lot more as the prices are based on the usual 500ml product and both the Honey & Almond Bath & Shower Creme & Propolis Skin Gel have been super sized to double so you will receive a whopping 1 litre of each, so in effect you could add another £57.00 to the value of the offer!!

£123.00 = extra product £57.00   Total value £180.00  for Under £40.00

In addition to this value you are also one of the first to try out the Propolis & Safflower Hand & Foot Cream which is a brand new product from SBC released in this offer.

This collection really is * Top to Toe Ritual from the Hive*

PROPOLIS = A complex resin produced by bees to seal the hive.

SBC Propolis Scalp Care Shampoo 500ml £24.00

Designed for use for the whole family this soothing, refreshing shampoo is suitable for even the most sensitive scalps. Proplolis is rich in anti-oxidants and bio-flavinoids  that soothe sensitive itchy scalps while adding moisture to the hair follicle itself. This shampoo worked beautifully for me, I am usually left quite tangled before conditioner but this left my hair feeling super clean and soft.

SBC Propolis Hair Care Conditioner 500ml  £24.00

Following on from the Propolis Scalp Care Shampoo you really only need a small amount of this creamy conditioner to get your hair feeling soft and silky, the conditioner is enriched with not only Propolis but Royal Jelly, Vitamin E, and an infusion of Pro-Vitamin B5 and Argan Oil. The combination of these two products left my hair feeling soft and with quite a shine which is not easy on grey/blonde hair, so it was a good achievement.

SBC Honey & Almond Bath & Shower Creme 1000ml the   5000ml £21.00

This super sized bath and shower gel smells absolutely divine the Honey fragrance has such a soothing effect on the senses, the Creme lathers really well and left my skin feeling clean but not slightly itchy. The blend of Honey, Sweet Almond Extract and Propolis has been designed to cleanse, soften and moisturise the skin.

SBC Propolis SkinCare Gel 1000ml  the 500ml £36.00

Again in a super size 1000ml this is incredible value and will last you and the whole family a really long time, what this gel lacks in it's not very attractive colour it really does make up for it when it comes to moisturising the skin, it's a bit of an ugly duckling story for me as it turned into something quite beautiful.

I would not hesitate to call this a bit of a wonder product, it can be used not only on the body but also on the face, it can be used as a soothing face mask left on for 10-15 minutes, it is out of this world at soothing dry itchy skin, I suffer with horrible dry skin on my shins and this truly has been a godsend.

I would honestly say this gel alone is worth grabbing this offer at lightning speed.

And finally..............

SBC Propolis & Safflower Hand a& Foot Cream 100ml £18.00

This product is being introduced by the brand in the special TSV offer so you will be among the first to own it, our two probably most forgotten areas being hands and feet which is odd as they are our two most hard working areas!
This rich emollient cream absorbs easily and will not leave you feeling at all sticky, I can honestly say my feet are thanking me for this and what a perfect time to start looking after your feet with the onset of sandle season approaching. Don't be one of those people who leave it too late for foot treatment only to get embarrassed when trying on summer footwear, can you tell I am speaking from the voice of experience?

If you are super organised you can wear a good layer of this cream at night with cotton gloves and socks for a deep down conditioning treatment. Propolis Extract, Safflower Seed Oil and Vitamin E combine with Shea Butter & Glycerin to condition not only the skin but cuticles and nails too!

This is my first experience with Propolis as an ingredient and I have to say it has been an absolute pleasure and I wish I had discovered it sooner, there is something so comforting about the fragrance of this whole range it feels as though you are being wrapped in a warm towel and cosseted.

SBC Simply Beautiful are a cruelty free brand Made in England. All products come with minimal packaging to help the environment, Pumps are included.

Five products that will really bring you a * Top to Toe Ritual from the Hive*
