Decorating Done (almost)

I thought I would update you on the Decorating dilemmas post, The dining room is finally finished Dah Dahhhh.

Did I think it would ever end ? no ! .............. am I pleased with the result ? Yes indeedy :) As I think I mentioned previously the poor neglected dining room was only used for Christmas, Birthdays and any other major occasions and as such had been overlooked on many a decorating bug, only when Christmas came around every year ( as it does) and I laid the table did I look round and regret not giving the poor room more love, well now it has been well and truly loved and is looking very shiny and brand new.

As you know, it needed re plastering and a total overhaul, I wanted the walls perfect as this time  I wanted to paint them, as its an old house the walls were pretty rubbish and has previously been hidden by paper, so............. with gallons of white paint in various shades, I set about attacking everything,  if it  could be painted or was standing still it got the white paint treatment ! I usually go for cream, in fact the entire house is cream, I have a total passion for neutrals being the base and the colour being added in the form of soft furnishings or accessories, I think this stems from the theory that is  far more cost effective to cheer up and change a room by swopping colours rather than re decorating the whole room,  The dining room has been given accents of Paris Grey, again only with accessories and small things that could be easily painted over, radiator cover panel, stencils on sideboard, and highlights on the cast iron fireplace, the rest of the grey is in the linen curtains and matching table runner and cloth that took for ever to find !

In doing this room it kind of highlighted the kitchen due to there being an archway between the two ( phew) so while the white paint was out and I seemed to be wearing most of it, it made sense to touch up the kitchen, I only did the paintwork and Mr Lavender Barn got the job of the ceiling and fitting new lights, I very nearly got totally carried away and played with some tester pots for the walls, but stepped away for the moment lol.

I don't know about your house, but what is it with decorating ?  you think the place is ok..... ish, start painting and suddenly you find yourself looking around the whole flippin house thinking,  " Oh it's all looking a little bit tired "  you could.....if your weren't very careful and probably exhausted, end up going from room to room, and then starting all over again !

I have, for now, hung up my brushes.

Till next time.

P.S  Having said it's finished, I have had the idea of shutters on the walls this space !

More Shabby than Chic!

Our dining room has come to a temporary standstill, the poor plaster has broken some bones in his foot :( poor thing, I feel for him as he has a young family and needs to earn, so we will wait for him, accidents happen and life's too short to stress.  We have plenty to be getting on with while he gets better as I have now decided to replace the skirtings with nice deep ones.

Having this break in proceedings has given me food for thought.  Owning a shop with access to every style and trend imaginable people would think I would just grab a catalogue and order my home in bulk, no, no no where's the fun in that ? there are lots of companies out there that will show you fabulous room sets of our furniture leaving nothing to the imagination and assuming that you have no individual style ! In my humble opinion a house should be a home NOT a showroom, in reality we have children, grandchildren, pets and men lol, and as we all know these things bring the fabulous chaos known as love, I believe that a house should be a home, yes, filled with gorgeous things, but things you love, things that reflect you as a person and not overpriced showrooms that someone else has styled for you. One or two total wow pieces of furniture are enough in each room, as long as they make your heart skip a happy beat when you look at them, they are worth their weight in gold :)

Those of you that have bought here know from experience, the amount of time spent to find you that perfect piece,  be it a mirror, bed or a simple pair of bedsides, we will always aim to find you your wow piece whatever the budget.
As for my decorating......the story continues lol.

Decorating, Disasters and Dilemmas!

Well !.....Decorating, Who had the bright idea that decorating the dining room would be an easy task ? not one to shy away from splashing some paint around I thought it would be a  brilliant plan to give the dining room a facelift, having been spurred into action by my recent re covering of the chairs, the bug has bitten, deep sigh from "him indoors" with the look of "here she goes again" lol, bless him, once her gets over the inital thoughts of chaos he becomes quite enthusiastic.  As you will know only too well my friends it is never that simple !  hmmm lets strip the walls of this really yuk french script wallpaper that I once thought was very arty and interesting (not) Maybe it was new years day when I chose it ? and I was suffering the after effects of the previous night, who knows ? anyway it had to go, alongside a ton of PLASTER !!!
With the plasterer booked in, I now come up with another cunning plan, while we are going this far lets move a radiator lol, another visit , this time it's the plumber.  So with my cunning radiator move plan in place, it then dawns on me that we will now need new skirting, and very possibly a new radiator cover :) this will be news to himself unless he reads this blog lol. So... this whole decorating lark is begining to feel not as fun as I first thought, onwards and upwards, have been giving thought tonight to paint colours,

Loving Annie Sloane French Linen, possibly for the fireplace and mirror, this in itself is a huge step for me, I am a self confessed colour coward, absolutely everything here is painted cream with colour bought into every room in the form of accessories and dressing.  I am feeling a little braver with this new project,  but watch this space my nerve may go lol.

A shade of white......still cant do  colour on the walls, and possibly a feature wall, which is still undecided, am quite fancying the new rubber print rollers,  maybe not birds as shown here,  and definitely not French script lol, but food for thought :)

We are on hold now untill next weekend when the room is plastered,  then it will be all systems go, she said in her most positive voice.

Thanks as always for following, cyber hugs, Lyn x

Christmas spirit!

Well...."that" time of year is fast approaching, to be honest until now I hadn't really been feeling it...until this week, when we decided on a date for our Christmas shopping discount day, in the absence of our village Christmas fair ( sad face) we will attempt to raise some joy.....aided by a few glasses of wine for our customers and stay open till late. This week will find me getting my baubles out ( not a sight to be seen often !) and giving our little shop a festive dressing in time for Thursday 14th.

Talking of the festive season, once again John Lewis have produced a Christmas advert that will bring an ahhhhh when you watch it, I can't help but wonder if they have shares in Kleenex :) tear inducing ads.

French Chair

Sometimes,  well quite often actually !  a product comes along that has to make its way into my house, these fabulous chairs are just one of those times, for a some time now I have considered the ghost chairs that were on trend a couple of years ago, but whilst I loved them they always seemed just a little bit to trendy looking for my dining room, these however are just perfect, I am one seriously happy bunny :) I get the acrylic chair but in the French style that I love, perfect.

We are able to offer these gorgeous lovelies for a limited time for the bargain price of £ 99.00 each, if, like me you have fallen in love, please contact the shop 01342 837575, or email at

Spoiled poochies.

his morning for some reason I really struggled to leave the dogs at home,

maybe because the weather is a bit grim here and they were snoozing quite comfy in the lounge before I left, but it just felt like the kind of day to snuggle up with them and watch a really good movie !  The call of work put paid to that romantic little vision :) the dogs stayed sleeping !

I have decided to treat them though to some of our gorgeous Vintage look dog bowls, I hope they appreciate it when I get home lol.
